This journey to the Sacred West will take you through the sacred places and mysteries of the West region of Portugal, a land full of traditions and stories. Over the course of three days, you’ll have the opportunity to visit monuments, admire landscapes, taste local flavors, and learn about this privileged region nestled between mountains and the sea. PROGRAM:
Day 1: Fátima | Batalha | Nazaré
Morning: Departure from the origin points. The tour begins in Fátima with a visit to the Sanctuary and the Chapel of the Apparitions, one of the most important pilgrimage sites in Portugal, where the story of the apparitions of Our Lady is shared. Lunch at a local restaurant.
Afternoon: Continue to Batalha for a guided visit to the Batalha Monastery, highlighting the Founder’s Chapel and the Imperfect Chapels. Then, visit Nazaré, with a stop at the Sanctuary and the Forte de São Miguel Arcanjo.
Evening: Dinner at a local restaurant and accommodation at a hotel.
Day 2: Alcobaça | Peniche | Óbidos | Ericeira
Morning: Guided visit to the Alcobaça Monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage site, known for its connection to the founding of Portugal and the tombs of Pedro and Inês. Then, depart for Peniche, with a visit to the fort and the historic center, including some sacred sites. Lunch at a local restaurant featuring regional specialties.
Afternoon: Continue to Óbidos, a medieval town with historic churches and a walking tour through its charming streets. In the late afternoon, enjoy a riverside stroll in Ericeira, a town linked to the sea and fishing traditions for centuries. Visit the historic center and the Chapels of St. Sebastian and St. Peter.
Evening: Dinner at a local restaurant and accommodation at a hotel.
Day 3: Mafra | Santarém
Morning: Visit Mafra to explore the Basilica of the Mafra Convent and learn about the mysticism surrounding its construction. Visit the Mafra Park, with a guided tour by electric bus. Lunch at a local restaurant.
Afternoon: Discover Santarém, known as the Gothic Capital, and explore its heritage. This tour includes visits to the Church of Our Lady of Grace, the Convent of São Francisco, the Cathedral, and the Garden of the Sun Gates. Return to the origin points.
