Paths of Faith is an 8-day journey that combines spirituality, history, and culture throughout Portugal. Starting in Lisbon, visit iconic sites such as the Sanctuary of Fátima, the Monastery of Alcobaça, and the charming Nazaré. Explore the Templar tradition in Tomar, the serenity of the Monastery of Lorvão, and the Jewish legacy of Belmonte and Trancoso. Discover the beauty of Lamego and Amarante before being captivated by the untouched spirituality of Pitões das Júnias and the Gerês. The itinerary culminates in Braga and Porto, celebrating the richness of religious and cultural traditions that have shaped the country.

Paths of Faith – 8 Days of Spiritual and Cultural Pilgrimage in Portugal

This itinerary offers a unique journey, blending spirituality, history, and the stunning landscapes of Portugal. Over the course of eight days, participants will have the opportunity to explore monasteries, sanctuaries, and sites of great religious and cultural significance, immersing themselves in the country's rich historical heritage.


Day 1: Lisbon

  • Morning: Visit to the Jerónimos Monastery, with a stop at the Basílica da Estrela.

  • Afternoon: Historical tour of Lisbon, visiting the Church of São Roque, Miradouro de São Pedro de Alcântara, Santa Justa Lift, Carmo Convent, and the Sé Cathedral, with a climb to São Jorge Castle.

  • Evening: Dinner and overnight stay.

 

Day 2: Santarém | Nazaré | Batalha

  • Morning: Historical tour of Santarém, with stops at the Church of Santa Clara and other religious sites.

  • Afternoon: Walk along Nazaré’s waterfront, with a visit to the Sanctuary and São Miguel Arcanjo Lighthouse, followed by a visit to the Batalha Monastery.

  • Evening: Dinner and overnight stay.

 

Day 3: Fátima | Tomar

  • Morning: Visit to the Sanctuary of Fátima, including the Via Sacra and the Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary.

  • Afternoon: Travel to Tomar to visit the Church of Santa Maria do Olival, the Synagogue, and the Convent of Christ.

  • Evening: Dinner and overnight stay.

 

Day 4: Coimbra | Lorvão | Belmonte

  • Morning: Visit to the University of Coimbra and the Joanina Library, with a Fado performance.

  • Afternoon: Guided tour of the Lorvão Monastery and the Belmonte Castle, with a highlight on the Jewish Museum.

  • Evening: Dinner and overnight stay.

 

Day 5: Trancoso | Lamego

  • Morning: Visit to the historic village of Trancoso, with highlights including the Castle and the Jewish Quarter.

  • Afternoon: Explore Lamego, including a visit to the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Remedies and the Monastery of São Pedro de Balsemão.

  • Evening: Dinner and overnight stay.

 

Day 6: Amarante | Pitões das Júnias

  • Morning: Walk through Amarante, visiting the Church and Convent of São Gonçalo and the Amadeo de Souza-Cardoso Museum.

  • Afternoon: Visit to the Monastery of Salvador de Travanca and the Monastery of Pitões das Júnias, in the Peneda-Gerês National Park.

  • Evening: Dinner and overnight stay.

 

Day 7: Gerês | Braga

  • Morning: Free time to explore Gerês, with a visit to the Sanctuary of São Bento da Porta Aberta.

  • Afternoon: Tour of Braga, visiting the Sé Cathedral and the Monastery of Tibães.

  • Evening: Dinner and overnight stay.

 

Day 8: Porto

  • Morning: Walk through Porto, visiting churches and the São Francisco Convent.

  • Afternoon: Continue the historical exploration, including a visit to Livraria Lello and the 6 Bridges Cruise.

  • Evening: Dinner and overnight stay.
