This itinerary is a journey into the heart and traditions of the Serra da Estrela. From the medieval castles of Linhares da Beira and Folgosinho to the highest point of mainland Portugal at Torre, every stop has a story to tell. Discover the charm of the Zêzere Glacial Valley, the serenity of Lagoa Comprida, and the authenticity of villages like Sabugueiro and Loriga. This itinerary is perfect for those looking to experience the traditions, culture, and natural beauty of Serra da Estrela.

PROGRAMME:


Day 1: Linhares da Beira | Folgosinho | Gouveia | Manteigas

Morning: Journey from the departure locations. Explore Linhares da Beira, one of the best-preserved historic villages. Lunch at a local restaurant.

Afternoon: Visit the mountain village of Folgosinho, where, according to legend, the Lusitanian warrior Viriato was born. Visit the Mother Church, the House of Viriato, the Pillory, and the peculiar Castle. Continue to Gouveia, where you'll explore the historic center, including the Church of São Pedro, the House of the Tower, and the Church of Misericórdia.

Evening: Dinner and overnight stay.

 

Day 2: Manteigas | Covão d'Ametade | Torre | Lagoa Comprida

Morning: Explore Manteigas, a village overlooking the Zêzere Glacial Valley, famous for its mountain landscapes. Continue to Covão d'Ametade, where crystal-clear streams wind through a garden full of birch trees. Lunch at a local restaurant.

Afternoon: Head to Torre, the highest point of Serra da Estrela, at 1993 meters. Then, visit Lagoa Comprida, the largest of the lagoons in the upper massif of Serra da Estrela.

Evening: Dinner and overnight stay.

 

Day 3: Seia | Lapa dos Dinheiros | Cabeça

Morning: Visit Seia, a town known for its delicious bread and buttery sheep cheese, and the Seia Interpretation Center. Lunch at a local restaurant.

Afternoon: Explore Lapa dos Dinheiros, a village located 700 meters above the Alva River and the Caniça Stream. Then, visit Cabeça, also known as Cabeça, the Christmas Village, famous for its sustainable Christmas celebrations.

Evening: Typical dinner and overnight stay.

 

Day 4: Loriga | Unhais da Serra

Morning: Visit the village of Loriga, known as the "Portuguese Switzerland," with landscapes resembling an alpine setting. A former center for woolen cloth industry, the village charms with its River Beach and impressive terraces surrounding it. Continue to visit the River Beach of Unhais da Serra, considered the best-equipped river beach in the entire Natural Park. Lunch at a local restaurant.

Afternoon: Return to the departure locations.
