The Schist Villages tour takes us through the heart of Serra da Lousã and Serra do Açor, exploring the charming villages and natural landscapes of the region. Over four days, we will visit villages such as Gondramaz, Talasnal, and Piódão, renowned for their unique architecture, preserved traditions, and welcoming atmosphere. Additionally, we will explore natural wonders such as the Mata da Margaraça forest and the Penedos de Fajão rock formations, providing an immersive experience in a territory that leaves a lasting impression.

PROGRAMME


Day 1: Gondramaz | Talasnal | Lousã

Morning: Departure from the points of origin. Start of the itinerary in Gondramaz. Stroll through its narrow alleys, lined with schist houses and surrounded by nature. Lunch at a local restaurant.

Afternoon: Continue to Talasnal, offering views over the Lousã valley, where schist houses blend harmoniously with the natural landscape. Proceed to Lousã to explore the medieval castle and the Nossa Senhora da Piedade Complex.

Evening: Dinner and accommodation at the hotel.

 

Day 2: Cerdeira | Candal | Pena | Comareira

Morning: Visit the villages of Cerdeira and Candal, known for their schist houses and the preservation of Serra da Lousã’s traditions. Cerdeira is famous for its narrow streets and tranquil landscapes. Candal maintains a strong connection to local culture, with houses built in harmony with the surrounding nature.

Afternoon: Continue to the villages of Pena and Comareira, renowned for their stone architecture and mountain atmosphere.

Evening: Dinner and accommodation at a local hotel.

 

Day 3: Aldeia das Dez | Chãs and Foz d’Égua | Piódão

Morning: Visit Aldeia das Dez, a charming mountain village offering spectacular panoramic views of the Serra do Açor.

Afternoon: Continue to Chãs d'Égua and Foz d'Égua, sites of natural beauty featuring old stone bridges and crystal-clear waters. The day ends with a visit to Piódão, considered one of the most iconic Schist Villages.

Evening: Regional dinner at a local restaurant and accommodation at a hotel in the region.

 

Day 4: Mata da Margaraça | Fajão

Morning: Walk through Mata da Margaraça, one of Portugal's last virgin forests, renowned for its biodiversity and breathtaking scenery. Continue to discover the Penedos de Fajão, rocky formations offering stunning views of the valley. The village of Fajão is also known for its rustic charm and panoramic viewpoint. Lunch at a local restaurant.

Afternoon: Return to the points of origin.
